How Dan turned song sketches into powerful master recordings from the comfort of his home [Client case study]

Producer’s corner: Dan Mclaughlin partnered up with Supreme Tracks to turn his musical sketches and random ideas into “radio-ready” songs that communicate his message and captivate listeners’ attention.
Find out more about our collaboration and results from the man himself – Dan McLauglin.
Dan, what’s your background? Could you briefly share your experience with our readers?
Formally, 20 weeks of the clarinet in Junior High School (1971?). in 2003 I wrote an operetta, Oh No, Not Emily.
You’ve told us that you had a bunch of ideas but needed help in making them happen. Is that why you contacted us? What specific problem did you have?
How to take my collection of notes and make them into a song. I needed an arranger to fill out and make musically the notes coherent to other musicians, and then I needed musicians to play that arrangement and give me tracks that I could bring to the studio so I could record my own singer’s voice to.
How was the problem affecting you?
I was basically stuck at this level of “doneness” for this project.
You’ve already tried some other solutions before partnering up with us. Can you share some details?
When I wrote Oh No, Not Emily. I wrote the words and notes. Got a friend to make it musically coherent; auditioned 5 arrangers (I paid them); picked one, and that arranger found and organized the musicians for both the CD and the live show.
So, why did you choose SupremeTracks?
Supreme Tracks did all that in one step. Not knowing anything about costs, I estimated a budget of $2000 a song, and the Supreme Tracks price of $2500 a song, esp. since they did such a great job, made it a no-brainer to go with them for the entire project.
What risks did you consider regarding working with us? First-time collaboration surely carries a certain amount of doubts.
There really were no downsides, after I read that you made no claim on owning the output. I sent you one song to see what would be the result, and I am a producer that does not think it’s unreasonable to pay professionals to see what they can do, and it was worth $2500 to see if you could solve all my problems at once.
What reservations did you have?
Actually none. Either you would produce and my problems would be solved, or we would go our separate ways. Once you guys did a great job on the first song, and since I had no deadline, it was all good.
Dan, have you experienced any measurable success with the songs we worked on? (e.g. published on Spotify, got a placement, sold a song, made millions? )
I am learning slowly how to market in this digital age. I have a list of music critics and blogs from the indie bible and am making me way slowly though. Made millions, not so much.
Thank you, Dan. For the end, let’s listen to one of your songs, “Broken Wand”.

Hi Sonja, you will have all the copyrights as we are a work-for-hire studio. Regarding the price, it depends on the number of songs, type of music and what work needs to be done. So, I’d suggest to write to us on producers (at) supremetracks.com and we’ll take it from there. Jake
